From the wise words of Albus Dumbledore to the practical sayings of Hagrid to the musings of Luna Lovegood, here are the 15 of the most magical quotes that originated in the Potterverse. Here are the 15 most influential life lessons tucked into the pages of the beloved book series.
âIt is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilitiesâ
Book: Chamber of Secrets
Who said it: Albus Dumbledore
Explanation: After Harry emerges from the Chamber of Secrets, he expresses fear over the similarities between himself and Voldemort, telling Dumbledore that the Sorting Hat nearly placed him in Slytherin. However, the headmaster is quick to remind Harry that while he and Voldemort are both powerful wizards, Harry chooses to use his talents for good the true measure of greatness.
HAPPINESS CAN BE FOUND IN THE DARKEST OF TIMESâŠONLY IF ONE REMEMBERS TO TURN ON THE LIGHT.
Book: Prisinor of Azkaban
Who said it: Albus Dumbledore
Explanation: We can find a way to be happy in any condition if we remember that we own our happiness. Unfortunately, most of us gave this authority to people and circumstances to make us happy and sad.
The truth.â Dumbledore sighed. âIt is a beautiful and terrible thing, and should therefore be treated with great caution.â
BOOKâ The Philosopherâs Stone
WHO SAID ITâ Albus Dumbledore
EXPLANATIONâ Dumbledore shares these words with Harry while visiting him in the hospital wing following Harryâs battle with Professor Quirrell. Harry mentions some questions he wants answered about his history and his parentsâ deaths, and Dumbledore urges him to treat the truth with reverence and caution. Ultimately, the headmaster decides that there are some answers Harry isnât ready to hearâat least not yet.
âThings we lose have a way of coming back to us in the end, if not always in the way we expectâ
Movie: Order of the Phoenix
Who said it: Luna Lovegood
Context: OK, so this one is from the Order of the Phoenix movie, not the book, but itâs too good to pass up. When Bellatrix Lestrange kills Harryâs godfather, Sirius Black, during the Battle of the Department of Mysteries, Harry is distraught. However, he finds comfort in the words of Luna, who despite having lost her mother at such a young age, maintains this positive outlook on life. This line also seems to foreshadow the Deathly Hallows scene when Harry is able to see and speak to Sirius again by using the resurrection stone.
Differences of habit and language are nothing at all if our aims are identical and our hearts are openâ
Book: Goblet of Fire
Who said it: Albus Dumbledore
Context: Following Voldemortâs return and Cedric Diggoryâs death during the final task of the Triwizard Tournament, Dumbledore gathers the students of all three schools that participated in the tournament â Hogwarts, Beauxbatons and Durmstrang â in the Great Hall for an end-of-year speech, imploring them to come together to face the trouble that lies ahead. âLord Voldemortâs gift for spreading discord and enmity is very great,â he says. âWe can fight it only by showing an equally strong bond of friendship and trust.â
âWhatâs cominâ will come, anâ weâll meet it when it does.â âThe Goblet of Fire
Book: Goblet of Fire
Who said it: Rubeus Hagrid
Context: This Hagrid quote might not seem on the surface to be full of fiery inspiration, but his are words to live by just the same. As Hagrid says of Voldemortâs return, thereâs âNo good sittinâ worryinâ abouâ itââHe Who Must Not Be Named will strike when he strikes, and all the wizarding community can do is try and prepare in the meantime. But catastrophizingâdevoting oneâs whole life to dreading the worst possible outcome of a situationâwill help no one. Hagridâs pragmatic words are a reminder that fearing the future only harms our present.
I am what I am anâ Iâm not ashamedâ
Book: Goblet of Fire
Who said it: Rubeus Hagrid
Context: This full quote reads, âI am what I am, anâ Iâm not ashamed. âNever be ashamed,â my olâ dad used ter say, âthereâs some whoâll hold it against you, but theyâre not worth botherinâ with,’â and is said by Hagrid to Harry, Ron and Hermione after Rita Skeeter publicly outs the gamekeeper for being a half-giant â an ancestry that carries a stigma in the Potterverse. The insightful advice embodies Rowlingâs overarching messa

Blog Spotlight
Ok, so I am going to tell you my favorite things about Krisha and her blog, Krisha is a teen like me who loves to read books, and she is one my my soo many favorite blogger to have a bookish talk with and the I love the headers and dividers she uses in her posts. And one of the best things about her, she is a Ravenclaw!!!!!
I am soo excited, so most of you know I wrote a book I got the paperback in my hands today, finally, I was waiting for it from soo long, so the kindle version is shorter than the paperback(I added a few pages) but I am soo excited, having it on kindle is one thing but in your hands is another!!!!
And that’s not what I wanted to talk to you all about… So lately I have been making this 1000 piece puzzle, and it has like exactly same pieces with the help of my mom, I completely a lot, but any ideas how should I complete it, I mean I am usually good with puzzles, but this one is soo difficult, let’s talk about puzzles and how you solve them in the comments and if you ever faced a rough time completing it, how you did it, I would love to know!!!
Here is how far I’ve gotten, the pieces are soo small……………….
So, I was anxious to hear the joke which Dumbledore was about to tell and to read this letter and it’s response, it’s what I found on Mugglenet.
That one about the troll, the hag, and the leprechaunâŠ
Dear Professor Dumbledore,
Could you please finish the joke you started in Harryâs fourth year, where a troll, a hag, and a leprechaun walk into a bar? I know a plethora of fans (including myself!) really want to hear the end of this joke.
Ashrita
Dear Ashrita,
Iâm so glad that you asked this question. Here is the (abridged) joke:
A leprechaun, a troll, and a hag all went into a bar.
âBenny!â said the bartender to the leprechaun, âI warned you three not to come back here after the last time. Took me weeks to clean up after all the mischief you caused.â
âOh but itâs Flossâs birthday,â said Benny pointing to the hag. (She smiled and showed off her one good tooth.) âGive us a quick pint and let Troll and me sing to her. Then weâll be on our way. Cross me heart anâ hope ta die.â
The bartender was a soft-hearted (and rather soft-headed) man, and so he did as Benny asked.
No sooner had they finished their drinks when a fight broke out over who should be allowed to give Floss a birthday kiss.
The troll and the leprechaun wrestled like they were caught in Devilâs Snare and broke a remarkable amount of glassware. The bartender tried every spell he knew to stop them, but nothing worked. (Truth to tell, he was not a very good wizard.)
Meanwhile Floss the Hag stood by, grinning and looking quite pleased with the celebration in her honor.
After a lengthy brawl, the troll had the advantage. He towered over the quaking leprechaun, ready to smash an enormous beer barrel over the poor fellowâs head.
âOh for pityâs sake,â said Floss who was also an accomplished witch. âAlohomora!â
With a wave her wand, Floss opened the sealed barrel, dumping a lovely, golden brew over the troll, and quite possibly saving the leprechaunâs life.
âFloss!â cried the leprechaun. âLet me thank ye with a wee kiss.â But the hag shook her tangled tresses of hair and refused him.
âYeh see! Iâm the one she likes!â shouted Troll. He somersaulted to his lady love and tried to gather her in his great arms. But in a blink of a Cyclopsâ eye, the hag disapparated and her companions fled.
Once again, the bartender was left with a dreadful mess to clean up. His wife, who had witnessed the whole affair, heaved a sighed and began to mop up the ale.
âWell, my dear,â she said. âAt least weâve learned two important lessons.â
âWhatâs that?â said her grumpy husband. (He was in no mood for philosophical musing.)
âObviously,â the wise and alarmingly cheerful woman continued, âA Benny saved is a Benny spurned. And a rolling troll gathers no Floss.â
â
And now you see why Professor McGonagall stopped me from telling this joke.
In fact, she has heard me tell it twice and has threatened me with several Unforgivable Curses if I ever attempt to tell it again in her presence.
I believe this type of joke â one that can go on for a very long time with an annoyingly small payoffâ is called âa shaggy dog storyâ in Muggle terms. I consider it excellent fun. Especially when I allow myself to sing every verse of the troll and the leprechaunâs birthday songs!
I once knew a very fine leprechaun who excelled at this sort of tale. His record length of time before delivering a faintly amusing punch line was somewhere in the neighborhood of seven years. Unfortunately, he was driven out of Ireland immediately afterward.
I encourage you to tell this joke to your friends and add as many ridiculous and unimportant details as possible.
But do not blame me if they are not your friends when you finish.
Yours in mischief and mirth, Professor A. Dumbledore
What do you find more hilarious the joke or Professor Dumbledore’s letter?
Pleasant autumn wind blows
My hair covers my face
The leaves rustle as I walk
Yellow and red cover the ground
I take a moment to breathe in the air
I dance around the trees
Admiring the beauty
The peace and serenity
The World stops for me
I don't wish to loose this moment
But alas, like it autumn came
It will go away
Leaving no trace of it's beauty.......
I visited heaven
Brown, gorgeous
Soft like a cloud
It melted in my mouth
People say good things don't last long
And they are right.
After a minute
I looked at my stomach
And realized the chocolate was in it
Before I knew
I was back to the Earth
And the chocolate had proved it's worth!
This poem makes absolutely no sense at all if you have never felt eaten a melted chocolate….. The way it melts in your mouth, ahh, heaven……………..
Also, I am trying to write fiction check out my new story here.
So I finally finished reading the book after 4 days, I know such a long time, but it was definitely worth it!!! Also this is my first review soo, do correct me on any errors, thanks!!

My new divider!!
My views
Soo most of you know that I love HP, but I can easily say that the Percy Jackson series is waayyyyyyyyyyyy better than Harry Potter, and even though I love JKR’s imagination Uncle Rick is just as compatible…
I absolutely loved this book, I had been waiting for it for more than an year, and I gotta say it was worth the wait. I really hope Rick Riordan will add another sequel series to this!!! Oh, and hopefully Apollo keeps his promise to Jason!! Surely this series wasn’t as good as PJ but still it was awesome!!!
I feel like I am a mountain,
Beautiful, mystic in a haunting way,
Rough on the outside,
But, when hurt,
I crumple..........
The world moves on,
Yet I choose to remain,
Unlike life, I don't change,
I don't adapt to the World,
I let the World adapt to me,
Parts of me,
Hidden underneath the mist,
Undiscovered, undestroyed,
The world goes on but like a mountain,
I remain.......
